The gold standard in premium compact standard primes for mirrorless cameras.
Part of the acclaimed I Series from Sigma’s Contemporary line-up, the Sigma 50mm f/2 DG DN | Contemporary is a full-frame standard prime designed to deliver outstanding optical performance in a robust yet portable body.
With its all-metal build – including lens hood, aperture ring, focus ring, and even a magnetic metal lens cap – the lens balances premium craftsmanship with portability. Weighing just 350g and measuring only 68mm in length, it’s an ideal travel companion for photographers who demand both quality and convenience.

Thanks to Sigma’s advanced stepping motor technology, the lens offers fast, quiet autofocus, making it perfect for both stills and video. The bright f/2 maximum aperture allows for fast shutter speeds in low light, a shallow depth of field, and smooth, artistic background blur.
The versatile 50mm focal length is suited to multiple genres, including:
Street and documentary photography
Portraits and weddings
Events and travel
Everyday lifestyle and landscapes
A professional-quality optic in a compact body, this lens is ideal for photographers on the move.

All-metal construction – precision-cut aluminium for strength and durability.
Weather sealing – rubber gasket at the mount protects against dust and moisture.
Manual aperture ring – with smooth, precise clicks for intuitive operation.
Knurled metal finish – enhances grip and handling on the hood, focus, and aperture rings.
Magnetic metal lens cap – included alongside the standard plastic cap for convenience.
As with other I Series primes, this lens is built in Sigma’s Aizu factory in Japan, ensuring premium craftsmanship and reliability.

The lens is designed with 11 elements in 9 groups, including:
3 aspherical elements – reduce distortion and spherical aberrations.
1 SLD element – minimises chromatic aberration and maintains clarity.
A Super Multi-Layer Coating is applied to reduce flare and ghosting, delivering rich colour rendition and high contrast even in strong backlighting.

The wide f/2 aperture produces smooth, natural bokeh that enhances subject separation. The rounded 9-blade diaphragm ensures attractive out-of-focus highlights, while the 50mm focal length provides a flattering perspective for portraits.
Even wide open at f/2, the lens maintains exceptional sharpness and detail, ensuring your subjects look their best.
